Julian Henry De Niro is an American actor best known as the son of acclaimed actor Robert De Niro and actress and model Toukie Smith. Born in 1995, Julian grew up in New York City and has gradually established an entertainment career of his own while maintaining a relatively private public profile.

Unlike celebrity children who become known primarily through interviews, social media, or publicity, Julian has built his profile through a combination of acting and academic achievement. His credits include In Dubious Battle, The First Lady, Zero Day, stage work in The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, and the 2026 short film I’m Not Home.

His background is also distinctive because he pursued higher education in mathematics and computer science alongside formal drama training. This combination has made Julian Henry De Niro an interesting figure for people searching for information about Robert De Niro’s children, his career, education, family, and life away from Hollywood publicity.

Julian Henry De Niro Quick Facts

Who Is Julian Henry De Niro?

Julian Henry De Niro is an American actor and a member of one of Hollywood’s best-known entertainment families. He is the son of Robert De Niro, the Oscar-winning actor associated with films such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and The Godfather Part II, and Toukie Smith, the former model and actress known for her work in television and film.

Julian has not pursued fame in the same highly public way as his father. Instead, his career has developed through selective acting appearances in film, television, and theater. His professional credits show an interest in different forms of performance rather than a career built solely around his family name.

His education is another important part of his story. While studying drama at NYU Tisch, he also pursued mathematics and computer science, later completing a master’s degree in computer science at NYU Courant.

How Old Is Julian Henry De Niro?

Julian Henry De Niro was born on October 20, 1995, making him 30 years old in 2026. His birthday falls under the zodiac sign Libra.

There is a minor discrepancy in publicly available biographies concerning his birthplace. IMDb lists New York, New York, while the Broadway biography published for his stage work states that he was born in Los Angeles and raised in New York City. Because of that difference, it is more accurate to say that Julian was raised in New York City rather than present one birthplace as undisputed.

Who Are Julian Henry De Niro’s Parents?

Robert De Niro is one of the most respected actors of his generation, with a career spanning decades across film and television. Toukie Smith worked as a model and actress and became known for appearances including the sitcom 227.

Robert De Niro and Toukie Smith were in a relationship during the late 1980s and 1990s. They became parents to twin boys in October 1995 with the assistance of a surrogate mother. The relationship between Robert and Toukie eventually ended, but their family connection continued through their children.

Who Are Julian Henry De Niro’s Siblings?

Julian is part of a large blended family through his father, Robert De Niro.

His siblings include Drena De Niro, Raphael De Niro, Elliot De Niro, Helen Grace De Niro, and his twin brother Aaron Kendrick De Niro. Robert De Niro later welcomed another daughter, Gia Virginia, with Tiffany Chen.

Drena De Niro has worked as an actress and filmmaker, while Raphael De Niro has pursued a career in New York real estate. Julian’s family therefore includes members who have worked in entertainment as well as outside the film industry.

He studied drama as an undergraduate at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and also attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute for acting training. Julian Henry De Niro works as an actor.

His professional acting credits include film, television, theater, and short-form projects. His career began on screen with In Dubious Battle, followed by his television appearance in The First Lady. He later appeared in the limited series Zero Day and continued his stage and short-film work.

Julian Henry De Niro’s Acting Career

In Dubious Battle

Julian made one of his earliest credited film appearances in In Dubious Battle, a 2016 drama directed by James Franco and based on John Steinbeck’s novel.

He played Billy in the film, appearing alongside actors including Nat Wolff, James Franco, Selena Gomez, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, and Bryan Cranston.

The project gave Julian an early opportunity to work within a large ensemble cast and established one of his first documented screen credits.

The First Lady

One of Julian’s most recognizable roles came in the 2022 television series The First Lady.

He portrayed a young Barack Obama, while O-T Fagbenle played the adult Obama. The anthology drama focused on the lives and experiences of several American first ladies, including Michelle Obama, Betty Ford, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

The role attracted particular attention because it demonstrated that Julian was developing a career separate from his father’s work while taking on a real historical figure.

The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window

Julian also moved into theater. In the 2023 Broadway revival of Lorraine Hansberry’s The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, he played Alton Scales. The production featured Oscar Isaac and Rachel Brosnahan among its principal cast.

The role was significant because stage acting requires a different performance approach from television and film. It also gave Julian an opportunity to work in a major theatrical production while expanding his professional range.

Zero Day

In 2025, Julian appeared in the Netflix limited series Zero Day, playing Riley Dobbs. His role was a one-episode appearance in the political thriller, which starred Robert De Niro in the lead role of former U.S. president George Mullen.

I’m Not Home

In 2026, Julian appeared in the short narrative film I’m Not Home, directed by Elena Parasco and co-starring Eli Brown.

The film premiered at the 2026 Tribeca Festival. Julian plays Rune, one of two lifelong friends whose reunion forces them to confront unresolved emotions from their past.
